Shift From Surviving to Thriving This Holiday Season

If I don't put attention on how I move through the holidays I find myself burning out by New Years.

The Halloween candy is on sale, costumes still scattered on the bedroom floor. Isn't it early to be talking about this?I don't think so. Nope. Because year after year I found myself recuperating from the holiday season by the 1st of January instead of ringing in the New Year with prana (life force-energy) to spare. Here's how I got there:

  • I ditched my self-care routines. There just wasn't time I told myself. What's one month anyway? But once I dropped my long walks and yoga classes I began dropping other things too—like drinking enough water, getting enough sleep, eating regular healthy meals. I vacated my body and stopped listening to it's needs. It's no wonder I began the new year with low energy, low attitude, and a cold.

  • I put high expectations on myself and the season. I often missed the moments of magic in my desire to recreate holidays past or to completely reinvent the wheel with several new traditions at once. My perfectionism got in the way of the very magic I wanted to create. My desire to make or give the perfect present for every loved one on the list denied me the presence to enjoy my time with them.

  • I felt disconnected from myself and those around me. I didn't carve out space for stillness, for quiet, for unplanned moments of spaciousness. There was a lot of doing but not a lot of being. I believe this comes from not feeling "enoughness." So we overplan and overdo to be enough and give enough. The result, ironically, is not feeling enough, or content, or fulfilled, or at peace at all. We haven't carved out the space to just be, to drop the agenda, and to trust in the magic that will unfold when we give it the space to do so.

If any of the above rings true for you, I'm thrilled to say it doesn't have to be this way. It no longer is for me. I'm sharing the tools I used to make this powerful shift in my own life in my upcoming e-course, Thriving Through The Holidays. Find all the details and sign up here. As moms, we default to putting our needs last, especially during the holidays, when our families are pulling for a lot of our attention. It's up to you to carve out a little pocket for yourself.

So, how do you want to feel this holiday season?

I created this e-course to support you through this season of magic, celebrations, and pressures (both external and internal). Each Monday for 6 weeks I will be there (in your inbox) as a friendly guide to help you:

  • reconnect to the feeling of simple magic you experienced as a child.

  • carve out time for your self-care.

  • define your intentions for this holiday season.

  • bring those intentions to life with your own creative flavor.

  • keep it simple, easy, and fun so you can be present to the magic that ensues.

  • celebrate the shifts your making and the abundance in your life with a gratitude practice.

Let's do this together! We'll begin on November 7th and end on December 12th. Sign up here. You can have the simple, magical, childlike holiday feeling again when you take good care of yourself and create space for the magic to thrive.
